I recently discovered the joys of widening your social circle and making room for new people and experiences in your life. Many of us get anxious for some nightlife action as the weekend approaches and think, “what’s happening tonight? Does anyone know of any parties?” I’m not much of a nightlife person but one Friday evening, I was desperate to connect and socialize with new people.
I decided to hit up meetup.com and I randomly chose a dance event that was happening that evening at the Copacabana with the International Dance and Music Meetup in NYC. Since that Friday evening experience, I have become obsessed with New York City nightlife at The Copa.
There’s no better feeling then to dance your stress, frustrations, and cares away. Maybe its because they play Spanish music in addition to Reggae, Hip-Hop, and R&B that I love this place so much. I love that even caballeros in their 70′s and 80′s frequent this dance floor and “cut-up” with their zoot-style suits or guayaberas as they lip-synch to la melodias of their youth and enjoy a new sound from their millennial grands. I love that people are not pretentious. The only focus at this hot spot is to baila tu corazón.
Whatever it is, I yearn for the weekend so I could dance my heart out and allow the dance floor to fluidly carry my tears away like a rushing and wavy ocean before it renders me sleepy with Latin lullabies at 4am.
