Being in and out of the ER four times this week has been draining, in addition to my 2-day admittance. After doing so well in the diet and fitness arena, I became so stressed with my priorities that I neglected myself, cut my workouts out dramatically, and had small portions of vegetarian foods filled with lots of cheese and gluten. My body went haywire from a swollen eye to various bouts of Gastritis and even a Pleural Effusion which are small fluid filled sacs that surround the lungs. The Pleural Effusion came from inflammation in the body and lungs from allergies.
The ER staff were mildly accommodating when I mentioned that I was vegetarian but leaned more toward vegan. For breakfast they gave me cheerios with soy milk but it seemed as if it took forever for them just to find some soy milk. For lunch, they seemed to prep better and anticipated that I would need a veg meal. They provided me with some lightly steamed peas, which I really enjoyed, and a veggie patty. I’m not a huge fan of boxed and frozen veggie patties but it seemed a chore for them to cut up some fresh fruit and veggies. Go Figure. I tossed the bun, the Lactaid, and ginger ale, and kept the meal and the Dole fruit cup. Pretty decent.
The next morning, I almost lost my mind when they entered my room with waffles. I simply said, “Get out.” Lol, with a smile. I was a mess but anxious to get back on track.
Lesson I learned: once you eat clean, you can’t go backward and expect to be the same. If something works for you and your body is engaged, and thriving, then stick to it. Buena Suerte (Good Luck) Citrus-Lifers!
