Good Afternoon Loves. I wanted to come to you all today not just to discuss ways that you can become healthier or fitter but to address the importance that this campaign season and election will have on our lives moving forward. We are currently very stressed as a nation, as a people, as women, men, minorities, young and old. This type of stress is very unhealthy and it would be wrong of me to continue on with my videos as if it’s business as usual and nothing in this world has changed. I felt that from a healthcare standpoint, it is important to understand what changes may occur for you and your family moving forward. These changes will dictate all of your health decisions moving forward and it is imperative that you understand them. In this video, I’m only addressing a small portion of the new reform and will try to make more videos discussing the other segments of the plan. I will link the plan info below. But it is crucial that you understand the plan and plan accordingly for yourself and family.
Part of Trump’s Healthcare Reform Plan is to reduce the number of individuals needing access to programs like Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program
He says, we will need to install programs that can grow the economy and bring capital and jobs back to America.
He says, The best social program has always been a job – and taking care of our economy will go a long way towards reducing our dependence on public health programs.
But what about the atmosphere and environment he has created surrounding this campaign season. Do you think it will be easy for minorities, LGBT, Women in general, and people of color to have access to some of these “job” opportunities Mr President-Elect?
Many of us can’t even walk down the street, pump gas, visit our local grocery stores, drive home without a police stop gone wrong, or express our fears on our news feeds without being harassed, threatened, or racially incited. We have begun to experience a level of fear that has not been awoken in our spirits since The Civil Rights Movement. How can “WE” afford the opportunity to have hope and access to greater jobs, better living, and better health if we are harassed, incited, fearful, and job-less? How can we FOCUS on providing better health for our loved ones when we are now in survival mode? How can decide to take care of our economy when the descendants of the very people that enslaved our ancestors—and are in fact mixed themselves—do not want any of us in this country and are inciting rage against us.
What about the chronically ill? The disabled? The dying? The children that have drank the sugar-filled kool-aid that America has made more affordable than bottled water? What about the families of children who are battling cancer and many of their resources are used toward hospital bills and alternative medical resources? Are they not inclined to receive aid from a Public Health Program?
This is not just an election people. This is about your life and my life. Our lives. I’m not angry that Hilary lost. I’m scared, fearful, and in survival mode because a billionaire with no political experience decided that he’s tired of funding other people’s campaigns and wanted to do the job himself. I’m scared because his speeches, rhetoric, and actions have incited violent action, violent words, and sparked both fear and rage from all sides. I’m scared because I don’t only fear for myself but for my family. I fear for myself as a black woman. I fear for myself as a Latin Woman. I fear for myself as a Chronically Ill woman who relies on some of these public health programs to offset what I cannot afford. I’m scared for myself as a woman.
I also fear for my family members. I come from a mixed family. I fear my polish-puerto rican cousin who appears very white, and I fear he will venture into an area or situation and someone will only see the color of his skin and take their fears out on him or judge him. I fear for my 80 year old Uncle who someone may view as an old white man with malicious intention and not know his sweet heart. I fear for close friends and family that do not look like me. I fear for us as a nation because it’s hard to post content about health and discuss the importance of caring for your health or post fitness videos or share nutrition content when the larger picture may not assist you in reaching your health goals. It’s not fair for me to continue on with health business as usual when the health landscape of this country will change and many may not benefit from it.
All I can say is stay strong. Do your best to focus on your health goals. Remember that together we rise and divided we fall. Keep one another safe and remember each other in your prayers. And I will see you in the next video.
